After charts
The following projects I made with charts from books and magazines. I was a subscriber of the needlecraft magazine Ariadne for many years. In addition I bought many embroidery special editions of Libelle, Burda, Handwerken and many, many more. My collection of needlecraft books offer a lot of beautifull charts too.

I found the chart in a DMC-booklet.

Three stamps with the latest three queens of Holland.
These charts come from "Handwerk Handig" issue nr 4 of autumn 2002.
The colours of the Wilhelmina stamp are incorrect in this magazine.
Thanks to Hans I could connect the right colors to the symbols.

I embroidered my present ofcourse.
Because of the pictures of the baby-room on their baby-site I knew what colours I had to use.
The snail chart is form a book of Valerie Lejeune.
The letters came from a Dover-leaflet with all kinds of funny alphabets. They showed it with three successive colours. I made three combinations with white yarn: 3 colour strands, 2 colour en 1 white strand, 1 colour en 2 white strands. That is why the letters seem to be a bit chubby.

I did send that message with a design from the book "Repertoire des Motifs" of Valérie Lejeune. I added a heart, a D, a C and the year 2005.

Click to enlarge this picture... Aunt Else celebrated her 80th birthday in 2004. The nicest present I could think of was a piece of my needlework. In a little German book I purchased at Marktplaats.nl, I found a suitable design. Although Aunt Else lives in Holland already for quite a while, she is German-speaking of origin. So I could also take over the German motto.
I think the motto "dem glucklichen schlägt keine stunde" means that time is not important when you are happy. Suitable for an elderly lady, don't you think?

They chose a flower and a bee, the representation of natural conception. I don't know how many copies I have made, but I was a busy bee for many weeks.

Click to enlarge this picture... This red rooster was embroidered in the "Assisian" way. The surroundings are filled with cross-stitches and the rooster is shaped by backstitches. Therefor it is actually a white rooster. The fabric is not "even", a cross-stitch is a little bit higher than wide. That is why the rooster looks somewhat stretched.

The chart was found in Ariadne Baby en kleuter (Baby and toddler) special issue 2 1989.

"A house is made of bricks, a home is made of love"
Wherever you are living, your own emotions make it a home.
I like the saying and the design.

It is composed by cross-stitches in only four shades of green and by black backstitches. Many years it has hung on the wall in my Mum's house. After her death it came back to me.

My Mum cherished it another 13 years. And now it came back to me again. You can imagine that this is a very special cushion for me.
The design was a cross-stitch chart with different fishes from Ariadne embroidery special edition of 1987. In a needlecraftshop I first collected the prescripted DMC-colors and with that I could choose the right colors in wool. I did a nice job, didn't I? The back and the edges are made of corduroy, a very popular material for trousers and jackets in those years. I wanted the cushion look sturdy for my Dad.
