UFO's When you expect to find Unidentified Flying Objects on this page, I have to disappoint you. In needlework sites UFO means UnFinished Object. It is a piece of needlework you have started but never finished for whatever reason, but probably will some day.

The motif on this cloth is a replica of the "Brabants bont" motif. "Brabants bont" is the decoration of dinnerware that was in fashion for many decades in the Netherlands. My mother has bought plates and cups when she was just married (1946) and it is still on sale! I had sentimental reasons to want some for my own household, but I never came to buy it. That made the cloth, given to me on a birthday, less usefull.

It had to become a beautiful tablecloth for old Bram. He loved to play checkers (draughts). I transformed a chart of a chessboard to a checkerboard. The border as well as the number of blocks had to be altered. But sadly he died in 2004.

I hope to finish this cloth for myself one day because I love the design.

This little angel is from one of the books "Hemels handwerkboek" (heavenly needlework book) or "Paradijselijk handwerkboek" (paradisial needlework book) written by Marie van den Broek-Mertens, in 1977 published by Cantecleer. The charts in these books can be used with all sorts of techniques: embroidery, crochet and darning. (I don't know if darning is the right English translation for doorstoppen, but when you look at the picture you can see what I mean.) I started with darning, because it was a new technique for me. But it was a hell of a job: it needed to much time and it was to fiddly for me.

This garden, a design of Remy Ludolphy (RL), was a request of my Mum. She liked it a lot. But she passed away, so the reason to finish it isn't there anymore. Maybe one day for myself, because all RL designs are worth the effort. (It is a shame there isn't any site dedicated to the work of RL.)

This tablecloth is an attempt to embroider as free as my Mum did. But it never has become my favorite style.

This kit was given to me by my sweet late Aunt Joke. (No, it is not a joke: her full name was Johanna, and "ke" makes the short (male) name Jo into a female version. You pronounce it as Yowkuh.) The colorfull birds are printed on the black fabric. I think the result can be pretty.

In a TV-magazine they offered little cross-stitch kits as a promotional gift when you would bring in a new subscriber. The arms of the twelve provinces of the Netherlands were the subjects of those kits. At that time I lived in Brabant and had a boyfriend in Limburg. So I decided to stitch both arms. But I didn't want to bring in new subscribers (I'm not much of a salesman). I took a magnifier and drew the charts using the photographs in the magazine. I started Limburg and never came to stitch Brabant.
